Spring Update

WINTER WINTER WINTER!  Finally Spring is coming!!!! As pretty as it is for us in CHQ County, it was a brutal one for us up here at The Manor.  If Mayville, had 5 inches we had 10 inches and so on, I think at one point my snow plow piles were over 10 feet and the snow was halfway up our 12 foot English garden hedges around the pool.  No way to “walk through” the property from Manor to Cottage this year.  Our family of deers, probably about 20 of them or so, spent most of the winter sleeping in front of the manor front door, last year there were all behind the cottage house on the woods side.  I am continuously humbled by Mother Nature in general and especially around our property. As we are on 28 acres, we lost a bunch of trees this winter…tree clean up is coming.  Going to have a ton of wood for the fire pits !

As we unthaw from winter, I started adjusting the house as we get ready for the summer season of guests.  This year we are fully booked from mid-May till the end of September. We have three weddings in September and the rest are family gatherings. And we already a numerous bookings for 2023 summer wedding’s!!!  One thing positive that has come out of the world’s COVID-19 hibernation is that extended families are gathering again reconnecting.  I am so grateful this old home can be a destination for these events.  I wood like to believe the house’s ancestors are happy to see the home come alive week in and week out during this time.

Besides doing our basic touch-ups (paint and spring cleaning), I am moving rooms the rooms around (as always) and adding new some new artwork,  recovering the porch furniture cushions/pillows, and adding some new TV’s…oh wait till you see the new Samsung Frame we are hanging in the Ballroom! It is hands down my new favorite product…TV by use, piece of Art when not being used (I have to give a huge shout out to my client, Ryan Newell, for turning me onto this product when we were decorating his new lake house in January)…but our biggest happening is the new black metal roof on the main house and the cottage.  So EXCITED!!!!!

The new roof was truly our last major project, three years after we bought The Manor. Finally, she is ready for her close up (and the cottage too).  OMG yes, it has been three years in June since we purchased CHQ Heights Manor. Time just rolls on by…can’t wait to see how she comes to life as we all wake up from winter slumber.  Seeing the land bloom and our landscaping take shape is one of the things that makes all the work worth it!  Looking forward to sharing it all with you who help make it possible!  Follow us on IG @chauquatuaheightsmanor to see all the updates happening.
